- Look out for typos and spelling errors.
- Note that Subject terms in records often use American spellings.
- Check you are using the right field, eg. you haven't put a title in the author field.
- Don't include too much detail eg. for a specific item often all you need is an ISBN, or author surname and title keywords.
- If you are unsure of a spelling you can obtain a fuzzy search by using ~n at the end of a word. The value of n specifies the number of changes (in characters) which can be made to your term in order to find a match for it in a record. E.g. mathews~1 will find both mathews and matthews.
