A catalogue of the entire and very valuable library of the late Edward King, Esq. F.R.S. and A.S. et Soc. Antiq. Cassel Sod. Honorar. : author of the "Munimenta antiqua," 4 vol. "Morsels of criticism," "Hymns to the supreme being," and many other literary works. Forming a very splendid collection of books in every department of literature, particularly in natural history, the arts, English history, and topography. It contains, the original drawings of Albin's Birds ; Baldner's Birds and insects (unpublished) ; a collection of birds made by the Count Grolier ; Bartoli's Antient lamps, and Redi's Insects. Elegant copies of the undermentioned: Hortus Malabaricus, 12 vol. ; Merian's Insects, superbly coloured, large paper ; Stephani Thesaurus linguae Graecae, cum appendice et glossaria, large paper, 5 vol. ; Dugdale's Monasticon, with Stephens' continuation, and Dugdale's other works ; Hollingshed's Chronicles, 1577 ; Duke of Devonshire's Gems ; Duke of Newcastle's Horsemanship, largest paper, 2 vol. ; Chronicon Alberti Abbatas Standensis, a Ranzovio, 1585 ; with others equally valuable, and many on large paper. To which are added, his few fine missals, more particularly two, viz. Offices de la Vierge et Vies de Saints, 2 vol. 4to. containing one hundred and eighteen miniatures, painted by the most eminent artists of the fourteenth century, most probably by Giotto and Cimabue. Historical descriptions of new and elegant picturesque views of the antiquities of England and Wales : being a grand copper-plate repository of elegance, taste, and entertainment. Containing a new and complete collection of superb views of all the most remarkable ruins and antient buildings, such as abbeys, castles, monasteries, priories, and other religious houses, bridges, cathedrals, churches, chapels, towers, gates, arches, walls, antique houses, mansions, antient hospitals, colleges, palaces, monuments, nunneries, and other miscellaneous curiosities of antiquity, situate in different parts of England and Wales. All accurately drawn on the several spots, by artists of the first eminence, and finely engraved by the most celebrated engravers, whose names will always be affixed to their respective performances. The whole most beautifully printed in folio, on superfine paper, and accompanied by elegant letter-press descriptions of the several places delineated: wherein will be given, a copious and entertaining historical account of the situation, as well as antient and present state, of all those various magnificent remains of antiquity, and authentic memoirs of their several possessors, from their foundation to the present time: together with a clear account of the time when and the persons by whom they were built, and every other memorable event, and interesting circumstance or incident, relative to the important subject of our national antiquities, from the best authorities. And including the most memorable events that have happened at the respective places, and memoirs of the lives of such learned antiquarians as were born or flourished in the neighbourhood. To which will be added, various picturesque views of the principal seats of the nobility and gentry; as also select views, delicately executed, of remarkable antiquities, romantic prospects, and other curiosities in Scotland and Ireland, and the Isles of Wight, Man, Jersey, Guernsey, Anglesea &c. Likewise a complete set of county-maps, accurately executed by the best artists - also accompanied with elegant letter-press descriptions of the ruins, buildings, &c. Calculated equally to please the polite - entertain the curious - instruct the uninformed - and assist the learned historian.
