Counts of Solms-Laubach, of Laubach, Oberhessen, founded circa 1680, their stamp "Bibliotheca Solms-Laubacensis" on leaf a1 verso, Germany, 18th century. Marked "7365 / G.I.5" and "TSS / ori // J. B." in pencil on upper pastedown and "Fil (224) in pencil in upper right corner of leaf a1 recto. "Librairie E. Baer / 9 Rue de Mézières / Paris VI°" in a paper label pasted onto upper pastedown, France, late 19th or early 20th century. Priced "450 -" in pencil on lower pastedown. Bought of the London bookseller H. A. [Hellmut Albert] Feiscunberger on 20 May 1949 through the Heitland Fund.
  • Binding: Beech wood boards from which the leather has been stripped, flashed with bookblock fore-edge, laced to three double-split whittawed leather spine bands and brown leather-core endbands (wanting), with traces of two rectangular catches at fore-edge of upper board, stubs of two whittawed and brown leather straps for fastening clasps (wanting) at fore-edge of lower board, and manuscript title "[flourished decoration] LAV [flourished decoration] VALLA" in dark brown ink along bookblock fore-edge, Germany, late 15th century; rebacked with brown calfskin.
