About the library

The University of Sheffield Library holds 1.2 million printed items as well as an extensive collection of electronic resources. The collections are housed across a number of sites:

Western Bank Library: contains material for most subjects and has a dedicated Architecture and East Asian Studies section. This site also houses Special Collections and The National Fairground and Circus Archive.

Information Commons: contains core textbooks for all subjects for undergraduate and postgraduate study and is open to registered students, staff of the University of Sheffield and Alumni.

The Diamond: contains a reference collection of core textbooks, as well as 4 floors of learning spaces.

Health Sciences Library, Royal Hallamshire Hospital: contains material for medicine; nursing; and dentistry

Health Sciences Library, Northern General Hospital: contains material for medicine and nursing

Accessing materials

Can I see live document availability on Library Hub Discover? No.

Can I obtain items via inter-library loan? Yes - subject to the library's local lending policy. See their website for details. You must request an inter-library loan via a library of which you are a member. Talk to your own library staff for advice on ordering an item.

Can I visit the library to view materials? Yes - see the library's website for access details. If you wish to visit it is advisable to contact the library in advance, to ensure that they can accommodate you and that the material you need will be available.
