About the library

Historical research and writing are supported by our Wohl Library, one of the world's greatest open-shelf collections of primary works, reference materials, bibliographical and archival guides. Spread over four floors, our refurbished reading rooms provide an excellent place to undertake research, supported by a team of expert librarians.

The IHR is part of the Senate House Libraries at the University of London. The main University of London libraries catalogue is available online.

Accessing materials

Can I see live document availability on Library Hub Discover? Yes.

Can I obtain items via inter-library loan? We do not lend items in our collection to other libraries, but may be able to provide photocopies. See the website for details.

Can I visit the library to view materials? Yes - see the website for access details. If you wish to visit it is advisable to contact the library in advance, to ensure that they can accommodate you and that the material you need will be available.
